Malaysia opens LSS6 plan for 2.65 GW of solar including 1.25 GW of storage

Malaysia’s energy ministry PETRA plans three LSS6 tender packages: 2.2 GW of open solar-plus-storage capacity, 300 MW of solar with 150 MW of BESS for Bumiputera developers, and 150 MW of standalone solar for smaller Bumiputera firms. Project sizes will range from 60 MW to 500 MW in the larger packages, while the standalone solar tranche is designed for 10 MW to 30 MW projects. The structure matters because Malaysia is moving utility solar procurement from capacity-only auctions toward firmed, grid-aware projects with domestic supply-chain preferences.
