ContourGlobal brings online 231 MW solar, 1.3 GWh BESS in Chile

ContourGlobal has commissioned the Victor Jara solar-plus-storage project in Chile’s Tarapacá region, combining 231 MW of PV with a 200 MW / 1.3 GWh battery system. The hybrid plant can deliver stored electricity for up to 6.5 hours, making it one of the more significant long-duration storage additions in Latin America.

The Victor Jara complex pairs utility-scale solar generation with a large BESS designed to shift production into evening and peak-demand periods. ContourGlobal’s Chilean storage portfolio now reaches about 2.5 GWh, strengthening its position in a market where solar curtailment and evening supply are central grid issues. The project matters because Chile’s high solar penetration increasingly requires dispatchable storage rather than standalone PV capacity.
