Canadian Solar starts U.S. HJT cell production at 6 GW Indiana facility

SolarNews Brief

Canadian Solar has opened the first phase of a 6 GW heterojunction solar cell facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana, through its U.S. subsidiary CS PowerTech. The company did not specify the first-phase operating capacity, but it previously indicated the first phase would be 2.1 GW.

The Jeffersonville plant is designed to produce n-type HJT solar cells and complements Canadian Solar’s module assembly plant in Mesquite, Texas. CS PowerTech said the facility will support domestic manufacturing and supply next-generation cells for high-efficiency modules. The development matters because U.S. cell capacity remains a critical bottleneck for domestic solar supply chains and policy-linked project qualification.
