Taiwan mandates solar on large buildings from August

Taiwan will require new, expanded, or renovated buildings of at least 1,000 square metres to install solar from August 1. The rule sets 1 kW of PV for every 20 square metres of building area and is expected to add about 660 MW of solar capacity each year.

pv magazine reports that the amendments to Taiwan’s Renewable Energy Development Act require solar systems to be integrated into building plans from the design stage. The Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Economic Affairs said the approach should improve urban green-energy supply while balancing aesthetics, safety, maintenance, and grid-connection planning. For Taiwan’s distributed solar market, the rule turns large-building permitting into a steady annual capacity driver.
