Tesla signs PPA for 509 MW solar and 1.4 GWh Arizona storage project

Tesla has signed a power purchase agreement with ContourGlobal for Project Sterling in Arizona. The project combines 509 MW of solar with 1.4 GWh of energy storage, with commercial operation targeted for 2028.

Solar Power World reports that construction on Project Sterling began in 2025 through off-site physical work intended to meet subsidy deadlines. ContourGlobal described the agreement as its biggest PPA to date and framed it as a tailored supply solution for Tesla’s energy needs. The deal adds another large corporate offtake signal for solar-plus-storage projects designed around firm, dispatchable clean power.
