South Australia rooftop solar briefly meets 99.9% of state demand

AEMO reported that the South Australia milestone coincided with a new winter minimum operational demand record across the National Electricity Market. Rooftop solar contributed close to 54% of underlying demand across the NEM at that moment, while renewables including rooftop PV, grid solar and wind supplied 71% of generation. Batteries absorbed about 10.5% of total generation and hydro pumping used just over 2%. For solar operators, the record underlines the growing need for flexible demand, storage, transmission and market rules that can handle very low midday demand.
