Chile releases bidding terms for first power auction including storage

Chile has released bidding terms for its first power auction designed to include battery storage as part of supply compliance. The rules matter because they put flexibility, backup capacity and storage-backed delivery into the core auction framework for regulated demand.

Chile's National Energy Commission has published bidding terms for a regulated power auction that explicitly allows approved storage systems to support supply obligations. The tender is scheduled to launch on 1 July 2026, with bids due on 4 December, economic offers opening on 5 January 2027, and awards planned for 13 January 2027.
