US battery storage adds record 20.2 GWh in Q2 2026

The US battery storage market installed a record 20.2 GWh in Q2 2026, bringing first-half additions to 30.8 GWh. Utility-scale projects drove the surge, with Arizona, Texas, California and Utah leading new capacity and a meaningful share paired with solar.

Electrek reported the Q2 storage record from the latest SEIA and Benchmark market outlook, with about 18 GWh coming from utility-scale batteries. The report says seven gigawatt-hour-scale projects supported the quarter, while 44% of utility-scale capacity was paired with solar. The numbers matter for solar because batteries are becoming the reliability layer that helps grids absorb midday PV and serve evening demand.
