CATL targets Brazil storage auction after nearly 300 GW of bids

CATL has partnered with Brazilian battery manufacturer Moura to target projects in Brazil’s first national energy storage capacity reserve auction. The programme drew more than 6,000 bids representing nearly 300 GW, showing the scale of latent demand for grid flexibility in Latin America’s largest power market.

Brazil’s LRCAP storage auction is becoming a key test for how the country procures capacity that can support rising renewable penetration. CATL and Moura plan to supply projects that win contracts, combining global battery scale with local manufacturing presence. For solar developers, the auction matters because storage procurement can unlock more utility-scale PV and wind by giving the system dispatchable capacity.
