UPERC approves joint 1,130 MWh battery storage procurement for UP and MP utilities

UPERC has approved joint procurement of 1,130 MWh of battery storage by utilities in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The order matters because regulators are increasingly enabling multi-utility storage procurement to support renewable-heavy grids.

The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved a joint proposal by UPPCL and MPPMCL to procure 1,130 MWh of battery energy storage for 15 years through competitive bidding. The decision creates a larger shared procurement route for long-duration grid support across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
