Public Storage and Solar Landscape plan 44 MW Illinois community solar portfolio

Public Storage plans to develop 60 rooftop community solar projects with Solar Landscape across northern Illinois. The portfolio is expected to total 44 MW in ComEd territory and send power to the grid over the next two years.

Solar Power World reports that the partnership will use self-storage rooftops as host sites for community solar generation. The projects are designed to support ComEd-area subscribers rather than only onsite load, turning distributed commercial roofs into grid resources. The deal is a useful signal for the US community solar market because it packages many small rooftops into a meaningful multi-site portfolio.
