Victoria declares six renewable energy zones to coordinate solar, wind, and storage growth

SolarNews Brief

Victoria has formally declared five onshore renewable energy zones and one shoreline zone after two years of consultation. The zones are intended to coordinate solar, wind, battery, and transmission investment as the state moves toward 65% renewables by 2030 and 95% by 2035.

The declared zones cover South West, Central Highlands, Gippsland, Western, North West, and the Gippsland Shoreline REZ, while the Central North zone remains under review. VicGrid says the declarations will give clearer signals on where projects should connect and how they should engage with communities and share regional benefits.
